The three story monstrously yellow Mekong Hotel sits by the Mekong River and is easily the best value hotel in town.

The rooms are huge and have very clean hot-water bathrooms, cable TV and air-con or fan. Beds are reasonable though some are super soft and some guests report the air-con is a bit variable so test it before accepting the room. The corridors are cavernous and have the acoustics of a toilet bowl, so light-sleepers will need ear plugs if they don't want to be woken by someone in their bathroom vomiting across the corridor at 05:00.

Basic breakfast is available downstairs and the staff are cheery, English-speaking and able to supply travel information and onward travel arrangements. Popular with tour groups and NGOs
